Saryta is an author, editor, and social justice advocate originally from Long Island, New York. They graduated from Columbia University in 2008, having majored in Sociology and Philosophy. Ever passionate about social justice in all its forms, Saryta served AmeriCorps both as a member of the NYC Coalition against Hunger and as a City Year Service Leader at PS 57 in East Harlem.

After working at both David Black Literary Agency and Penguin Publishing in New York, Saryta founded their own manuscript editing and submission consulting firm, Brave New Publishing. Saryta has written articles for Vegan Publishers’s blog, Causa Justa/Just Cause’s website and printed newsletters, and Reasonable Vegan, among other outlets (see Published Essays and Interviews for access to electronically published works). They are also a proud supporter of, and occasionally volunteer with, Food Empowerment Project and Causa Justa.

Their first book, Until Every Animal is Free, about the state of the Animal Liberation Movement in America in the twenty-first century, was published in 2015 by Vegan Publishers (Boston). (While Saryta was a member of Direct Action Everywhere for part of the time they spent writing the book, they left the organization in September 2015.)

Saryta currently divides their time between New York, New York and Oakland, California.
